(SHANGHAI, Sept. 11, 2017 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) At the Smart City Summit held at HUAWEI CONNECT 2017, Huawei shared insights and best practices of Smart Cities. Besides, Huawei and the Government of Weifang City launched "IoT Weifang", an IoT city demo based on Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and Huawei OceanConnect IoT platform. Huawei is aiming to create the "nervous system" of smart cities.
Weifang, China: IoT city demo based on NB-IoT and Huawei OceanConnect IoT platform
Based on a "People-oriented, Innovation-driven" development concept, China's Weifang City Government and Huawei created an NB-IoT city-aware network using a "one network, one platform, N applications" construction model utilizing IoT, cloud computing, Big Data, and other next-generation ICT. Leveraging Huawei OceanConnect IoT platform, the city-level IoT platform was created for Weifang, enabling unified access, management and data collection from various IoT-enabled sensory equipment. By efficiently gathering valuable IoT data in real-time from smart devices, the platform enables a new level of Big Data analysis to benefit the entire city.
Additionally, Huawei and the Government of Weifang City announced the establishment of the Huawei-Weifang IoT Innovation R&D Center and the Huawei-Weifang Smart City IoT Industry Alliance. These initiatives are designed to enhance and expand industrial applications of NB-IoT and drive continuous improvement of city management and public services.
In Weifang, Huawei has already enabled smart lighting, a typical application powered by the innovative IoT network, which is based on standardized NB-IoT and the first of its kind in China. The IoT network integrates eight value-added services including a remote control system, Wi-Fi hotspots, video surveillance, environment monitoring and statistics. The smart lighting system monitors the status of street lamps in real-time, adjusts brightness automatically, and detects faults, among other functions, saving 80% of electricity and 90% of maintenance costs. It also provides scientific and accurate data analysis for city management.
Digital economy is the core engine of city
Ugo Valenti, CEO of Smart City Expo World Congress, said: "The city is where social innovation happens. It allows every person to equally grasp the opportunities brought by digital transformation and advances in technology. Only under the collaboration of public administration departments, companies, and academic communities, especially with cooperation from the people, can the city innovation model provide a more promising digital economy, pushing a society towards a better-connected future."
Dr. Zheng Zhibin, General Manager of Global Smart City Solution Department for Huawei Enterprise Business Group, said: "ICT advancement is accelerating the growth of the digital economy, which is a driving force of global economic development and transforming cities across many areas including governance, transport, living, social interactions, and employment, promoting the sustainable development of cities. The underlying connectivity in these smart cities will be critical to unlock the potential of the digital economy. Huawei is focused on improving connectivity capabilities within cities and is creating the nervous system of better-connected cities through an IoT platform, achieving better awareness, connectivity among smart devices."
Longgang, China: best practices in smart city construction
China's Longgang District Government and Huawei worked together to develop a smart district based on the district's needs and priorities, and to enhance the district's governance through data-driven applications to benefit the people. For example, Longgang's smart government transformation enables coordinated back-end work division after a case is accepted by front-end parties, making government approval more convenient and efficient. The transformation also achieves integrated online and offline approval services, allowing Longgang citizens to submit applications or reports to the government through online business halls, mobile apps, WeChat, and other channels.
To date, Huawei's Smart City solutions have been deployed in more than 100 cities of over 40 countries around the world. 197 of the Fortune Global 500 companies and 45 of the top 100 enterprises have chosen Huawei as their partner for digital transformation.
HUAWEI CONNECT, Huawei's flagship event for the global ICT industry, is taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from September 5-7, 2017 under the theme of "Grow with the Cloud". For more information, please visit http://www.huawei.com/en/events/huaweiconnect2017/.
